Glossary

The words of the roadbook, the Studio, events and the app - note, drawing, CAP, waypoint, DZ, FZ, MODIF, stage, package, unlocking, back-track, LateNote, replay and the rest.

Annotations — the text of a note: the words of the FIA lexicon (PP, FRO, Qᵀ, ET…) and the free text.

ASS — finish of the selective section. See the rules.

Automatic scrolling — the RoadBook following your position by itself. Always off with the FIM W2RC 2027 profile; on by default in training.

Back-track — the arrow that takes an off-course rider back, along their own trail, to the last validated waypoint or to the point where they left the track.

Blue line — in the note drawing, the track the rider follows, drawn with its true shape.

Burst — several voice recordings at the same spot: they are decided together.

CAP — the direction in degrees (0–359) to follow on leaving the note. It can be an exit, average (A), calculated (C, off-track only) or oblique CAP.

Class — a group of entrants in an event (Bike, Car, Quad…), which can have its own settings in each stage.

Clean navigation — a classification without a stopwatch, by points: waypoints taken, rules respected, distance ridden close to the track.

Clerk of the course — in an event's team, the person who manages stages, rules, start times and corrections to the results.

Cockpit — the app's screen during navigation: instruments, RoadBook or map, keys.

Confidence — how sure the engine is about a note: high, medium or low. You can read it in the inspector.

Connected device — a phone or tablet signed in to the account with the app; it is disconnected from the Studio.

CP — passage control.

Danger — level from 1 to 3, with one, two or three red exclamation marks.

DN / FN, DT / FT — start and end of a neutralisation and of a liaison.

Draft — the working version of a roadbook, saved with every action. It becomes a version with Save version.

DSS — start of the selective section.

DZ / FZ — start and end of a speed-controlled zone.

ET à X m — "and then", after X metres: a second nearby event written in the same note.

Event — a race or raid in the Studio, with stages, classes, entrants and team.

FIA lexicon — the conventional words and icons of the roadbook. See icon lexicon.

FIM W2RC 2027 — the regulations of the rally raid world championship of the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme, and the RoadBookAI profile with its values for radii, penalties and race rules.

Forced opening — opening a waypoint that cannot be found: the arrow guides you, the WP counts as missed. The organiser decides whether it is allowed and with what penalty.

GPS time — the time given by the satellites: it opens race stages, even without a network connection, and cannot be changed by moving the phone's clock.

GPX warnings — the RoadBook warnings (dangers, STOPs, junctions, fords, zones) overlaid on the map, for riders navigating with the track.

HP — hors piste, off-track.

How many notes — how many notes per km the engine proposes: Essential, Dakar style (about 1), Standard, as if by hand (about 2), Detailed, at every junction (about 4).

Inspector — the panel on the right of the editor with all the data of the selected note.

Joint controllership agreement — the agreement between the organiser and M@trix on race data (Article 26 GDPR), accepted in the Studio when the first event is created.

KM CUT / KM EXTRA — in the rider report: the sections where the rider shortened the RoadBook course, and the extra distance ridden compared with the RoadBook.

Last-minute version — a new version of the roadbook frozen in a stage already published, with the reason: it reaches the phones with a notice.

LateNote — an episode in which the RoadBook shown to the rider falls several notes behind the road they have ridden: it happens when you follow another rider or the tracks on the ground instead of reading the notes. In training the app warns "CHECK THE ROADBOOK!"; in a race it only records it, and the organiser can penalise it in the supplementary regulations.

Live — race control's map with the position and status of the riders; also public, with a delay.

Map — the data from which the engine reads roads, tracks, buildings and signs.

MODIF — label of a note changed since the previous version. It is added automatically when you save a version.

My events — in the app, the events you are entered in, with their stages.

My roadbooks — in the app, the roadbooks in your Studio account.

Navigation (RoadBook or GPX) — how an entrant navigates: with the RoadBook, or on the track on the map with the warnings. In the results they are separate categories.

NEW NOTE — label of a note that is new since the previous version.

Note — the unit of the roadbook: a row with total km, partial, drawing and annotation column.

Note drawing — the junction as the rider sees it, with the direction of arrival at the bottom.

Off-course alarm — the app's warning when the rider has ridden a certain number of km away from the track. See Back-track.

Offline map — the vector map of the corridor around the track, downloaded to the phone for GPX navigation; in race stages it is encrypted.

Opening / validation radius — the distance within which the instrument shows the waypoint, and the distance within which the passage is valid.

OpenRally GPX — open roadbook format for navigation apps.

Organiser — the role that creates events; it is given by an administrator.

Package — the encrypted file of a stage for one rider: roadbook, track, rules, class settings and times.

Partial — the distance from the previous note.

Profile — a named set of values: waypoint radii and race rules. The system profiles are FIM W2RC 2027 and Training; organisers save their own by duplicating them.

Proposed — the status of a note as the engine placed it, not yet reviewed. In a recce, also the action suggested for a voice note (the proposal).

Provisional / final classification — the stage classification posted, with the time for protests; when the time is up it becomes final.

Public roadbook — a roadbook proposed by an author and approved by an administrator, free to download.

Pulse — the unit of speeding: one every 150 m or 10 seconds over the limit.

Race control decision — a manual correction of the calculation, for one rider or for everyone (penalty edited, WP marked by hand, manually timed passage, WP neutralised, speed zone cancelled, imposed time), with the reason and the log.

Recentre — in the GPX view, the command that brings the map back to your position and direction of travel (by itself after 10 seconds).

Regional map — the map data of a region or country already on the server: with it a roadbook is generated faster.

Regulation mode — the app's behaviour in a stage with the FIM W2RC 2027 profile: no coordinates, no automatic scrolling, settings locked as the regulations require.

Rejected — a note excluded from the roadbook: it stays at the bottom of the RoadBook and can be restored.

Replay — the playback of a stage or a training ride: tracks, RoadBook following along, charts, mistakes and comments.

Rider preview — in the Studio, what an entrant sees in the app at a simulated time.

Rider report — the PDF of a stage or a ride for the debriefing: times, distances, KM CUT and KM EXTRA, off course, waypoints, stops, speeding and penalties.

RN2 — the format most widely used by roadbook apps and software.

RoadBook — the column of notes in the Studio and in the app, drawn like the PDF Dakar.

RoadBookAI JSON — the native .roadbook.json format, for the app and for reopening the roadbook without losing anything.

Source — where a note comes from: map, GPS track, reviewer, recce voice note or written note.

Stage — a part of an event (prologue, selective section, liaison), with its frozen roadbook.

Starting order — the order and start times of the riders in a stage, generated according to the FIM W2RC 2027 regulations or with your own rules.

Status block — in the portrait cockpit, the part at the bottom with the status line (speed, limit, validated WPs, next WP), the waypoint strip, the panel tabs and the bar.

STOP / race STOP — the road sign, for information only; and the compulsory stop of N seconds checked by GPS, with a penalty.

Surface — the type of road of a line in the drawing: asphalt, track, small track, faint track, off-track (HP), road with no surface stated on the map.

Tester — an entrant who tries the stages before the race, without appearing in the results.

Training group — a tutor's group: students who accept the invitation share their training rides with the tutor.

Transcription — the text of the voice notes, obtained from the audio on our server.

Tutor — the person who follows a training group and comments on the students' rides; the role is given by an administrator.

Unlock code — under the FIM W2RC 2027 regulations, the code given by race control to a rider who cannot find a waypoint: the WPM code makes WPMs and WPSs visible (3 hours of penalty, 6 from the fourth use), the emergency code all WPs (6 hours).

Unlocking — the moment the package of a stage opens on the phone: usually 20 minutes before the rider's start.

Version — a snapshot of the roadbook that never changes again (v1, v2…).

WPV, WPE, WPM, WPS, WPC, WPP, WPN — the visible, eclipse, masked, safety, control, precise and navigation waypoints.
